Junior High 2 – Day 1

Camp Lebanon is welcoming another group of Junior High campers this week!  Can’t wait for a full week of epic fun with these teenagers – it’s going to be incredible.  Campers and their parents started arriving at 4pm, checking in with their counselors at their cabins and meeting there cabin mates for the week.  They got the chance to take their swim tests this afternoon as well, and lots of campers did!

Then it was time for the big welcome at the Steps of Faith, where campers got to meet the Summer Staff, lower the flag, and head down for dinner with their cabins.  The first meal of the week is an adventure picnic meal, so cabins got their food and found a spot outside to eat together and spend some time getting to know each other.  Tonight’s picnic dinner was sloppy joes, chips, veggies, and chocolate-vanilla swirl ice cream!

Following dinner, cabins gathered again at the big tent (where we will be having chapel meetings this week) for some welcome rules and guidelines to help everyone have a great time at Camp.  Then it was once again time for cabins to split off and take tours with their counselors, learning where all the important spots at Camp are for their week here.

Campers stopped at their cabins to grab their bibles, because chapel was next!  Our speaker for the week, Jon Monsour, the Youth Pastor at Discover Church in St. Cloud, MN, gave everyone an introduction to himself and to the core themes he will be covering this week in chapel.  As we learn about God as the Mighty Savior, Jon emphasized tonight that our identity is not found in the things that we do or the hobbies we have or the things we like, but in Jesus Christ!

TAKE CAMP HOME

In chapel, Jon talked about our plans for chapels going forward this week.  He mentioned 3 passages of Scripture that we would be spending time on: John 3:16-17, Titus 2:11-13, and Ephesians 2:8-10.

He also listed 3 topics that we will be covering this week:

1) God is PAST, PRESENT, and FUTURE!

2) SALVATION happens by the POWER of God through his GRACE for all who BELIEVE!

3) Being SAVED means renouncing the passions of the world and embracing GODLINESS and GOOD WORKS.

Talk to your camper about how these verses and topics connected with them during their week at Camp.  Was there a particular chapel that really stuck with them?  Why?  Did they memorize any of these verses?  If so, have them teach it to you (with actions, if they remember them!).  If not, learn them together as a family!

After Chapel, campers had some evening Free Time and Canteen.  The sun is just setting (it was so beautiful tonight!), and the campers are out laughing and playing on the Hub.  The last thing tonight is a night game!  We’ll share more about that tomorrow.  So excited to have these campers here – and we’re excited to share all of the fun with you here on the blog throughout the rest of the week!
