Summer Staff Bios – Program Staff

SUMMER IS HERE!!!

We couldn’t be more excited to welcome our 2023 summer staff to Camp to prepare them for the amazing summer ahead of us! We have a such a strong team this summer, and we can’t wait to see how God works in and through them this summer. Without further ado, we introduce to you….. The 2023 summer program team!! 

Female Program Staff

Tori Hudson

Summer Role: Female Staff Supervisor

College Major: Health and Science Studies, pre-AT

Favorite Hobies: Listening to or making music, anything sports related, thrifting, making coffee and tea drinks, hammocking, making bracelets, and driving around with a carful of friends listening to music!

What are you looking forward to this summer: Seeing the ways that God moves in the lives of staff and campers! Also getting to spend time away from distractions and focus entirely on Christ.

 

Emily Fisher

Summer Role: Female Lead Counselor

College Major: Global Leadership

Fun Fact: I’ve been to five different countries in Asia.

What is your favorite Bible verse: Acts 20:24 “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God” 

I want my life to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.

Molly Ackerman

Summer Role: Dining Hall Team Lead

Describe your perfect pizza: Ham, pineapple, tomato sauce, and cheese.

What are you looking forward to this summer: Making crazy fun memories and doing things you can’t do on a day-to-day basis. Also, growing in my faith and relationships with people at camp.

Favorite Hobbies: pickle ball, fun random adventures with friends, buying fun things off of amazon, and hiking.

Marissa Engst

Summer Role: Female Junior Staff Supervisor 

College Major: Criminal Justice

What are you looking forward to this summer: I am so excited to see how God is going to move throughout the staff, D3ers, and campers this summer:)!

Favorite Hobbies: I enjoy doing crafts, knitting, hanging out with friends, and doing random unplanned activities.

Pam Moen

Summer Role: Housekeeping Team Lead

College Major: Criminal Justice

What is your favorite Bible verse: This is kind of 2 in 1, Jeremiah 17:8 and Psalms 98:8. I love these verses because I had done an artwork with these verses and it is one of my favorite artworks.

What is your favorite Bible verse: Cross Country Skiing, mountain biking, reading, making art, watching movies, snowboarding, listening to music, and playing guitar ukulele, and piano.

Rose Larson

Summer Role: LIT Supervisor

College Major: Elementary Education, Special Ed

What is your favorite camp memory: When I worked in the dining hall one of my very first summers! Our group instantly clicked, and we had such a wonderful time getting to serve others at camp even though it was challenging work.

Favorite Hobbies: I enjoy playing pickup softball and reading! I am also learning how to play the guitar!

Abbie Mellgren

Summer Role: Photoblogger

College Major: Public Relations with a minor in Mission & Justice

Fun Fact: Until I was almost two years old, I didn’t talk – I used sign language

What are you looking forward to this summer: Capturing the fun and candid moments of Camp through the lens of the camera; helping Camp spread the good news of the Gospel and leading others to Christ; growing in my own relationship with Jesus over the summer; and creating and maintaining deeper relationships with other staff members!

Anna Johnson

Summer Role: A/V and Program

Where are you working during the school year: I’m working as a barista at a local coffee shop.

Favorite Hobbies: Painting, making bracelets, playing video games.

What is your favorite Bible verse: Mark 11:24

“…whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours…”

God will take care of me and my needs will be met.

Brook Lorenson

Summer Role: Master of Ceremonies 

College Major: I actually just graduated from Bethel with a degree in Relational Communications, and a minor in  Biblical and Theological Studies! Woohoo!

Favorite Hobbies: Reading, playing pickleball, card games, and chilling with my buddies.

What are you looking forward to this summer: I am most looking forward to having fun with all of the campers! I can’t wait  to play games, be in chapels, and see God move with the campers.

Mary Schmitz

Summer Role: Camper Care

College Major: Psychology

Favorite Hobbies: Reading, writing, singin’, and playing my ukulele.

What are you looking forward to this summer: I am looking forward to sharing heartfelt and fun memories with campers and fellow staff members. I am excited to witness spiritual breakthroughs and powerful moments!

Lizzy Bidwell

Summer Role: Lifeguard

Where are you working during the school year: I work for the family business part time and I’m going to attend college full time this fall.

Fun Fact: I’m obsessed with star wars

What is your favorite Bible verse: John 16:33. It reminds me that no matter what happens God has everything figured out. I don’t have to be strong enough because God is!

Katrinna Deters

Summer Role: Craft Lady

College Major: Environmental Studies, Geology, Studio Art

Fun Fact: I was born with 12 fingers.

Favorite Camp memory: Bonding with my LIT group, we were the first group after COVID, and we were in Pine Cove for a week then in Romania for our lessons, and we all just got super close and we had a quote book to remember some of our best ones.

Hannah Malm

Summer Role: Office Assistant 

College Major: Social Work

Favorite Hobbies: Crafting, Reading, Skateboarding.

Fun Fact: I work at Costco.

What are you looking forward to this summer: Spending time with God and the kids.

What is your favorite Bible verse: Psalm 31, because it talks about having a home, and after not having a home for a season of my life it really connects with me. It is one of the reason I love God so much.

 

Natalie Hanks

Summer Role: Lifeguard

College Major: Biology

Describe your perfect pizza: Bubble crust, mozzarella, mushrooms, and pepperoni.

 

What is your favorite Bible verse: Proverbs 19:21 because it reminds me that he has a plan for me and I have a purpose.

Pat Bennett

Summer Role: Waterfront Supervisor

What do you do during the school year: I am retired so I enjoy time with grandchildren, church groups, sports and hobbies.

Favorite Hobbies: swimming, pickleball, biking, sewing, quilting, audio books, gardening.

What are you looking forward to this summer: I am looking forward to seeing how God will use my years of experience in aquatics and physical education to bring Him glory, As a retired widow I am looking forward to being around so many wonderful people.

Tayah Lackie

Summer Role: Media Team Lead

College Major: Accounting

Fun Fact: I’m going to graduate college with my bachelor’s degree one year after I graduated high school!

What are you looking forward to this summer: I am looking forward to seeing all of the memories built at camp this summer! I am also really excited to capture the fun kids are having and share it with their parents. Being on the media team allows me to share the camp experience with those that aren’t there, and it gives me the opportunity to share the joy of camp with those around me! God is going to do amazing this this year, and I can’t wait to see where He leads!

Male Program Staff

Santiago Mendoza

Summer Role: Male Staff Supervisor

College Major: Automotive Technology

Favorite Hobbies: Legos, Cars and Lego Cars

Fun Fact: Likes bed times and black licorice.

What are you looking forward to this summer: Wonderful people, new opportunities and the same God.

Daniel Carlson

Summer Role: Male Lead Counselor

College Major: B.S. Physics. B.S. Applied Physics – Biomed, Optics

Fun Fact: There are two things I am inexplicably good at. Spelling and impressions.

What is your favorite Bible verse: Romans 5:1 “therefore since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Verses like this are good reassurance of our identity and stance with God.

Aaron Smallman

Summer Role: Maintenance Team Lead

Josh Sandberg

Summer Role: Program Team Lead

College Major: Physics and Engineering

Favorite Hobbies: I like to hang out with friends, play music with friends, and read

Fun Fact: I will own a newfypoo. (newfoundland + poodle)

What are you looking forward to this summer: I am looking forward to being able to build into the D3 kids, and also just have living life with the campers.

Colin Stewart

Summer Role: Special Projects Videographer

College Major: Business Management with essence in Hospitality

Favorite Hobbies: I LOVE Traveling, Photography, Videography, and my biggest hobby is Cruising!!!

If you had a warning label, what would it be: “Warning… this man love cruising”

What is your favorite camp memory: Gotta be the Media team office of finding Josiah… whom stayed up editing all night… with his head on the keyboard, scaring the daylights out of me!!!

Josiah Lash

Summer Role: Videographer

College Major: Film and Video Production

Hobbies: Filmmaking!

Favorite verse: James 1:3 because it reminds me that even through the tough ties my faith is growing deeper and stroger.

Joshua Kurtz

Summer Role: Nightwatch

Describe your perfect pizza: sausage and peperoni

Fun Fact: i started going to camp and taekwondo in the same year 2015

What is your favorite Bible verse: Proverbs 25:28 “like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control

 

Zach Van Batavia

Summer Role: Male Jr. Staff Supervisor/D3 Chaplin

College Major: Mechanical Engineering

Favorite Hobbies: Volleyball, Basketball, Lifting, Hanging with People.

Fun Fact: I love to thrift.

What are you looking forward to this summer: Leading my fellow brothers closer to Christ, while also trying to get closer to God.

Seth Kimmes

Summer Role: Worship Leader

College Major: Music Theory

Favorite Hobbies: Music and hangin’ with friends.

What is your favorite Bible verse: Mark 2:5 because it shows our sins don’t hold us down and we are free in Jesus.
