Camp Journal: 2018 Dads ‘N’ Lads
At the end of a blustery April came a warm sun, clear skies, and a wonderful group of fathers, sons, and grandpas who joined us at Camp Lebanon for our Dads N Lads Retreat! It was so much fun to see a mix of families – those who have had the Dads N Lads tradition in their families for years, and those brand new to Camp.
Our theme was The Circle C Ranch and we welcomed our speaker and expert horseman, Chad Coppess, who taught us about imitating Christ. His “parable of the horses” was incredibly powerful – we watched as he took an young, unbroken horse named Rooster from never having even worn a saddle, to being ridden for the very first time!
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. ~ Ephesians 5:1-2
Over 150 dads, lads, and grandpas came to this year’s retreat. It was incredible to see fathers and grandfathers taking time to intentionally invest in their relationships with their sons. There was so many opportunities for these guys to get out and enjoy the outdoors together – the first Screamin’ Eagle Zipline rides of the year, the 17th annual Polar Plunge (in a lake STILL mostly frozen!), wiffleball games, a hockey tournament, and perhaps the most exciting: our brand new Laser Tag activity!
We loved to hear the laughter of kids running around and playing outside at Camp! This was a powerful weekend of renewal and encouragement. Can’t wait to see what God has in store for next year, but until then, remember: Christ at the Center!
