Last night in chapel, campers got to meet Maryn Feyereisen, our speaker for the week! She introduced herself by telling them 7 things about her, including the thing that makes her say “Awesome!” She gave campers the assignment this week to look for God’s fingerprint while they are at Camp.
TAKE CAMP HOME: Does your camper remember any fun facts about Maryn? What are some of the things that they found around Camp that showed God’s fingerprints?
After chapel last night, campers had some Canteen time before the Staff Variety Show! Counselors and other summer staff put on a fun show full of skits and jokes for the campers and it was so much fun.
This morning, after the wake-up bell, camper could go do the Polar Dip, jumping in the lake for a quick dip first thing in the morning before getting ready for the day and heading down to Flag Raising and breakfast. After breakfast, campers went back to their cabins to finish Cabin Clean-Up. Then we all met on the Steps of Faith for the All Camp photo! Here’s the goofy shot:
After Morning Chapel, campers had a little bit of Morning Free Time, followed by a Cabin Adventure. For Cabin Adventures, campers go with their cabin groups and their counselor to do a cabin-only activity. A few cabins joined together to play Wiffleball in Legends Stadium, or to play dodgeball on the tennis courts. Other cabins played circle games, did chalk drawing, or played 9-square. Another cabin made some crafts together!
Then it was time for lunch-line-up and Lunch time! Today’s lunch meal was chicken tenders, mac & cheese, salad, and fruit for dessert. After lunch, we had our first Skit time, where campers got to meet the summer-long characters and find out more about the ongoing story of the week. Then they were sent off to their cabins to open up today’s mail and have some Toes-Up time – a chance to rest quietly in the cabin before Free Time fun!
Today, we had a fun game scheduled right before Free Time started, called the Pillowcase Scavenger Hunt. Cabins packed up a single pillowcase with as many items as they could from their cabin, and brought it back to the Main Hall, where staff had a list of random items. If they brought an item from the list, they got a point!
Then it was time for Free Time! Swimming tests finished up, and then the beach opened for everyone to swim. It was a super warm day, so the waterfront was busy for quite a while. Zipline was open for a little bit, plus Laser Tag and the Craft Room. Lots of kids beat the heat by playing carpetball in the Game Room, or drinking blue slushies in the shade. At 4 o’clock, a bunch of kids ran down to the Lower Field for the Option, a game of Drip, Drip, SPLASH (a version of Duck, Duck, Gray Duck that involves a glass of cold water). It was a super warm day, but everyone stayed hydrated and cool in their own ways!
Then it was dinner time! First, we lowered the flag at the Steps of Faith and had a fun amphitheatric where some volunteer campers tried to move an Oreo from their forehead to their mouths, without using their hands. It made for some pretty incredible facial expressions!
After dinner, we had our chapel session with Maryn. Tonight, we talked about the Awesome Creation and lessons out of Genesis 1. We learned that God is eternal, that He created out of nothing, that He created in 7 days, He created everything GOOD, and His highest creation was US (we are made in the image of God)! Maryn said that this matters because life has purpose, and God has made us all special.
TAKE CAMP HOME: Read Genesis 1 with your camper. Take some time to name some of the things in Creation that make you say “Wow!” What does it mean to be made in the image of God? What are some “wow” things about us, God’s highest creation?
Tonight after chapel we’ll have a little evening Free Time with the Canteen open, and then we will play a big game of Capture the Flag before bed. It’s been a busy, full day! We can’t wait for even more fun tomorrow!
We can’t wait to hang out with these Super Kids, and to get to know our Awesome Creator this week at summer camp! To continue following the story this week, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Don’t forget to download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!
