What a joy this past summer was. Over 1,800 campers enjoying God’s creation and partaking in “The Funnest Fun.” The summer was full of lives being changed by the hope found in Jesus, the “Living Word.” John 1:1-4 and 14 was a key passage, and it tells us of the real life found only in Jesus, and his power and authority to overcome darkness.
The deepest treasure I felt was in how this message was delivered by our amazing Summer Staff. We were so blessed to have nearly 50 Summer Staff this year! As I watched them overcome sleep deprivation and the always persistent cold or flu bug, one thing was obvious: this staff was on mission. They had committed themselves to sharing the good news of Jesus and always rose to the occasion.
It was incredible how common the message to me from speakers, or volunteers, or camper parents that I would meet on the weekend all started with the same sentence: “You sure have an amazing summer staff this year!” And we did!
My encouragement to them as they leave Camp for the winter season is to remember that Jesus is the Light with a capital L. But we are his light bearers, and we have a tremendous responsibility to keep shining our light for His glory.
Acts 13:47 – “For so the Lord has commanded us, ‘I have placed you as a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the end of the earth.’”
I am praying that this past summer’s staff will enjoy the months ahead and then, Lord willing, come back to Camp to serve another summer. I miss them already!!!
